Indian wedding shopping runs on a calendar most people only look at once — when the date is fixed — and then never again. That is a mistake, because the muhurat calendar does not just tell you when the wedding is. It tells you when every tailor, atelier, courier and makeup artist in the country will be busy, and therefore when your outfit needs to be ordered.
Here are the dates that remain, the long gap nobody plans around, and the timeline that works backwards from each.
What Is Left in 2026
Eleven shubh vivah muhurats remain in 2026, all of them packed into a seven-week stretch:
- November 2026: 21, 24, 25, 26
- December 2026: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12
These follow the widely used Drik Panchang calendar set to New Delhi. Muhurats are calculated for a specific place and, traditionally, against the couple’s own charts — so treat any published list, including this one, as a planning map rather than a substitute for your family priest.
The Gap Nobody Plans Around
From roughly mid-July to early November, Chaturmas — the four holy months during which Lord Vishnu is said to rest — closes the wedding calendar almost entirely. There are no significant muhurats in August, September or October 2026, and the same gap repeats in 2027.
The season reopens around Devuthani Ekadashi in November. This is precisely why that first fortnight books out before anything else, every single year: four months of deferred demand lands on a handful of dates. If you are marrying in that window, everything you need — outfits, alterations, artists, venues — is being competed for by everyone else who waited out Chaturmas.
“The date does not create the deadline. The four hundred other weddings on the same date create the deadline.”
2027 Opens Much Wider
2027 is a far more generous year: roughly ninety-six shubh vivah muhurats spread across nine months, with heavy clustering in February and a long run through May — the busiest single month of the year. January alone opens with dates on the 18th, 19th, and then 23rd through 28th, the 30th and 31st.
More dates is not the same as less pressure. The clustering simply moves: February and May 2027 will run as hot as November 2026 does, and the same suppliers serve all of them. For peak months, booking six to twelve months ahead is the realistic standard.
Working Backwards From Your Date
This is the part that actually matters. Take your date and count back:
| Months before | What should be happening |
|---|---|
| 8–6 | Bridal outfit chosen and ordered. Budget split agreed across all functions. |
| 5–4 | First bridal fitting. Sangeet, mehendi and reception outfits selected. |
| 4–3 | Immediate family outfits ordered together. Jewellery finalised against outfits. |
| 2 | Second bridal fitting. Footwear bought and broken in. Hems set to those heels. |
| 1 | Final fitting. Full trial with jewellery, shapewear and shoes. Steaming and packing plan. |
| 2 weeks | Everything physically in your possession. Nothing still in transit. |
If you are buying ready designer stock rather than commissioning, you can compress the front of this to about three months — but not the back. The final month is fittings and logistics regardless of when you bought. Our bridal shopping timeline breaks the bridal piece down week by week.
If You Are Shopping From Another City
Add a fortnight to every stage. Courier networks slow measurably during the November–December wedding crush and again around Diwali, and tier-2 and tier-3 pin codes feel it worst — exactly when you can least afford it.
The practical rule: nothing should be scheduled to arrive inside the last three weeks. If a store quotes you a delivery date that lands in the final fortnight, either move the order forward or choose something else. Our remote shopping guide covers the full out-of-city process.
Guests and Family: The Overlooked Half
Guest outfits need six to eight weeks, not two. The reason is not the buying — it is that everyone underestimates alteration queues in wedding season. A tailor who turns a blouse around in three days in August will quote three weeks in late November.
Family outfits need three to four months, because coordinating six people is not six times one person; it is one shared decision that has to survive six opinions. Order them together, from one place, in one conversation. The trousseau checklist has the full function-by-function list.
A Note on Buying Too Early
There is such a thing. Buying a fitted bridal outfit twelve months out means it is cut to a body you may not have by the wedding — a genuinely common and expensive problem. If you are shopping that far ahead, buy the pieces where fit is forgiving and defer the fitted ones, or make sure the piece is built with real alteration margin.
Planning Against a Fixed Date
At Designer Stock House, everything on the rail is ready stock, which shortens the front half of the timeline considerably — useful if your date is in the November or December cluster and commissioning is no longer realistic.
Send us your date and your function list and we will tell you honestly what is achievable. Browse the collection or message the showroom.
Frequently asked questions
What are the remaining wedding dates in 2026?
By the widely used Drik Panchang calendar set to New Delhi, 21, 24, 25 and 26 November, and 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11 and 12 December 2026. Muhurats are calculated for a place and traditionally for the couple's own charts, so treat any published list as a planning map and confirm with your family priest.
Why are there no wedding dates in September and October?
Chaturmas — the four holy months when Lord Vishnu is said to rest — closes the calendar from roughly mid-July. The season reopens around Devuthani Ekadashi in November, which is exactly why that first fortnight books out earliest every year.
How far ahead should I buy my bridal outfit?
Six to eight months before the date if it is being made or heavily altered, and no less than three months for ready designer stock. That leaves time for two fittings, and for the second fitting to reveal something the first one did not.
When is the busiest wedding month in 2027?
May, with February close behind. If you are marrying in either, book outfits and alterations well ahead — the same ateliers, tailors and couriers are serving every other wedding that month, and turnaround times stretch accordingly.
